At the request of its Research, Engineering and Development Advisory Committee (REDAC), the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is developing a comprehensive research roadmap for FAA and other interested parties to implement more systematic, effective, and complementary research programs. FAA wants to leverage resources towards substantially advancing the scientific knowledge needed by the aviation community to more optimally address the impacts of aircraft noise on society.
To those ends, FAA held a series of three meetings in 2009 - 2010 to begin the process of identifying research needed for advancing understanding of the annoyance and sleep disturbance effects of aircraft noise. The first was held in Ottawa in August 2009, the second in Washington, DC in December 2009, and the last in San Diego in March 2010. The following material summarizes those three meetings.
The main objective of these workshops is to outline key elements of the noise research roadmap.
